Applying for a scholarship.

What a Scholar Street scholarship is, who it is for, what you will need, and how the process works from application to award.

What the scholarship is

A Scholar Street scholarship helps a family afford the K–12 school that fits their child. It is funded by donors who receive a tax credit for giving, awarded on financial need and academic merit together, and paid directly to the school your family chooses.

There is no cost to apply, and there never will be.

Who can apply

Scholarships are for students from households under an income limit set by the program funding the award. The limit differs by state, and some programs set a higher one for a student with a disability. We publish the figures that apply before each application window opens, so you will know where you stand before filling anything in.

What you will need

  • An email address, to create an account
  • Documentation of your household income for the year the program asks about
  • Your child’s school information, including the school you intend them to attend
  • Any documentation of a disability, if you are applying under a program that recognizes one

We use these only to determine eligibility and to meet the recordkeeping rules the programs require. Our privacy policy explains how we handle them.

How the process works

  1. Create an account on our scholarship platform when a window opens.
  2. Complete the application and upload your income documentation.
  3. We review eligibility against the program’s published criteria.
  4. An independent committee decides awards. The Independent Scholarship Selection Committee, seated outside our Board of Directors, weighs financial need and academic merit. Donors have no say in who receives a scholarship.
  5. We notify every applicant, whether or not the answer is yes, and pay awarded scholarships directly to the school.
